Sometimes when we are experience certain feelings

Sometimes when we are experience certain feelings we can attach a meaning to them that is not based on fact. Whilst your emotions are real they do not always reflect objective reality. Feelings are result of the thoughts you have about a situation, these thoughts are influenced by a number of different things, such as past experience, social expectations, and even your current mood. They are not always an accurate indicator of what is actually happening.

An example of this, is feeling like a failure after you have made a mistake. You are not a failure; everyone makes mistakes and they do not define a person's worth or ability.

Journaling is a good way to help you separate your emotional reactions from reality.

Your journal is a place where you can express yourself and try different things. If drawing is not your thing, get creative with your words. Write in different persona's, rather than writing in the first person, write as though you are giving yourself advice. Write something in rhyme, maybe write an acrostic poem (a poem where the first letter of each line spells out a word or message vertically).
